Awake liposuction, also known as tumescent liposuction, is a surgical procedure performed under local anesthesia where the patient remains awake during the procedure. It involves injecting a solution into the targeted area containing a local anesthetic and a vasoconstrictor to minimize bleeding and discomfort. This technique allows for more control and precision in fat volume removal, as the patient can be repositioned and provide feedback throughout the procedure.
The procedure starts with the administration of local anesthesia to numb the treatment area. Once the area is numbed, a tiny incision is made to insert a cannula, which is a thin hollow tube. The Lipo Provider then moves the vibration assisted cannula back and forth to break up and suction out the excess fat deposits. The Lipo Provider may use different techniques such as ultrasound-assisted liposuction depending if you add on a natural fat transfer to the breasts or butt. Throughout the procedure, the patient remains awake and may be able to communicate with the surgeon and provide feedback.
Natural fat transfer, also known as fat grafting or lipofilling, is a surgical procedure where fat is harvested from one area of a patient’s body through liposuction and is transferred to another area of the body that needs or is desired to have more volume. These new areas to put the fat into consist of the booty for a BBL, the breasts and in some occasions the face.
Awake liposuction offers several benefits compared to traditional liposuction performed under general anesthesia, such as reduced risks, faster recovery time, the ability to see the immediate results of the procedure, and being able to recover in the comfort of your home. However, it is crucial to consult with one of our Patient Coordinators and Arizona Medical Board Certified Physicians to determine if awake liposuction is the right option for you to achieve your body contouring goals.
